What is Google Authenticator?

Google Authenticator is an app that generates dynamic verification codes, refreshing with a new 6-digit number every 30 seconds. When logging into Binance, you need to enter this dynamic code in addition to your password. Even if your password is leaked, attackers cannot log in.

🚨 An account without 2FA is extremely dangerous. Once your password is compromised, your assets could be transferred out within minutes. Enabling 2FA is the first thing to do after registration.

Step 1: Download Google Authenticator

iOS Users

Search for Google Authenticator on the App Store and download the official app (Developer: Google LLC).

Android Users

Search for Google Authenticator on Google Play to download. For domestic phones in China, you can search on app stores like Tencent App Store or Huawei AppGallery.

Step 2: Bind Google Authenticator on Binance

Steps
  1. Log in to Binance, click the avatar in the top right corner → Security
  2. Find "Google Authenticator" and click "Enable"
  3. The page will display a QR code and a backup key
  4. Open the Google Authenticator app, click the "+" icon in the bottom right corner → "Scan a QR code"
  5. Scan the QR code on the Binance page
  6. The app will display a 6-digit dynamic code. Enter it on the Binance page to confirm
⚠️ You must save the backup key! This string of letters and numbers is the only way to restore your authenticator. It is recommended to take a screenshot and save it in multiple places (cloud drive, email, paper copy).

Step 3: Verify It Works

Log out and log back into Binance. After entering your password, the system will ask for the 6-digit dynamic code from Google Authenticator. Entering the correct code means the binding was successful.

How to Migrate When Switching Phones?

There are two methods:

Method 1: Using the Backup Key (Recommended)

  1. Install Google Authenticator on your new phone
  2. Click "+" → "Enter a setup key"
  3. Enter the backup key you saved earlier
  4. The authenticator will be restored, and the dynamic code will display normally

Method 2: In-App Migration

  1. On your old phone, open Google Authenticator → Menu in the top right corner → "Transfer accounts" → "Export accounts"
  2. Select the accounts to migrate and generate a QR code
  3. On your new phone, install the app, select "Import accounts", and scan the QR code
💡 If your old phone is lost and you don't have the backup key, you will need to contact Binance customer support to unbind 2FA through identity verification. This process may take 1-3 days. So the backup key is really important.

Frequently Asked Questions

The verification code is correct but it says error?

Your phone's time might be inaccurate. Go to your phone settings → Time → Enable "Set time automatically", then try again after syncing.

Which is more secure: Google Authenticator or SMS verification?

Google Authenticator is more secure. SMS verification codes can be intercepted through SIM swap attacks, while Google Authenticator generates codes completely offline and cannot be intercepted remotely.
